Opening Day 2011

The moment that every ballplayer works toward each winter is opening day. It’s when all the hard work pays off. It’s what makes those cold, dark days seem worth all the trouble. It’s like when that final bell rings at school letting all the kids out for summer break. Get it? Opening day is awesome. Also, for myself and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, it’s tonight.

I’ve been training with this team now for a few weeks, and I’m very impressed with everything. The caliber of play is some of the best I’ve been around. Every guy on this team brings something very special to the field. Also, all the guys that our manager has put in that clubhouse are exceptional people. In a nutshell, I’m really looking forward to spending my summer with these guys on this team. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be signed back in to affiliated ball. That’s everyone’s goal. However, if this is where I end up playing all season, I’d be totally fine with that.

Thank you guys for all the encouragement and kind words throughout this off season. Thank you also for reading this blog, and for spreading the word about it. You’re the reason that I write it! My goal is to bridge the gap between player and fan, give you all an insight to this game like nowhere else, and hopefully give you a sense that I’m just a normal guy with a really cool opportunity. Follow along with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs all season long here: http://www.somdbluecrabs.com or http://www.atlanticleague.com

Thanks again for reading, and play ball!

Welcome to the Blue Crabs. I wish you luck this season playing for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. I saw you pitch during the exhibition game the other day, and in my opinion you did really well. I wish you luck pitching for the 1st time on the mound for the 2011 season.

Glad to know you’ll be on the mound again this season, Michael. Being an old Cobb County man, I hoped to see you progress through the Rangers’ system & I’d get to see you on the mound at the Ballpark one day. That still may happen, right? You have shown a strong spirit & belief in your abilities. As Winston Churchill said so well “Don’t ever give up.”

Hey Michael , I hope all is well with you and your new team . Thank you so much for working with Mason this past winter . Mason says that you are his favorite baseball player . This has been a great season for him thanks to you . He is now one of the top pitchers on his All-Star team . Thank you again for taking the time to help a young kid like Mason live his dream of being a pitcher .

I don’t no squat about baseball excluding what I quoted a couple of high coaches in for the newspaper about 400 years ago. But when you took time to tweet for Alice my ears perked up. I am an ultra busy mom that works at home and I am reading about baseball on a blog. Holy Beans!
God bless you and keep you and although my baseball knowledge is limited I will try to follow your career with my husbands help of course.
When I was little I lived in Turkey on a Military base. Those folks in town loved talking to my dad about baseball. Its too bad we can’t fix this mess over there and get something going they would help the middle east bond and put aside their anger.

Great – I should certainly pronounce, impressed with your website. I had no trouble navigating through all tabs and related information ended up being truly simple to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it in the least. Reasonably unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or something, website theme . a tones way for your customer to communicate. Nice task.
